Placido Bayou

Placido Bayou consists of a combination of 636 single-family homes, condominiums and townhouses. This gated and guarded community has 10 stocked ponds and nature preserves. A uniformed guard sits in a small building at the end of 47th Avenue NE. Visitors must pass by him and then through an electronic gate to enter the neighborhood known as Placido Bayou. It is one of the few gated, deed-restricted communities in St. Petersburg city limits, and those who live there say they cherish the privacy and sense of security it offers.

Placido Bayou's name is taken from the Italian word meaning tranquil, and for centuries Placido Bayou, the protected body of water that laps the shores of northeastern St. Petersburg, was a peaceful habitat for marine life and host to natural areas of mangroves, pines, oaks and wildlife that grew up on its sandy beaches.

Placido Bayou is bounded by 54th Avenue Canal to the north, 45th Avenue Canal to the south, Bayou Placido to the east and 1st Street N. to the west.
