Snell Isle is one of St Petersburg’s most sought after waterfront communities. The neighborhood is full of some of the most amazing luxury homes in the area and prides itself on the beautifully restored Park Plaza. Throughout the year, patrons run, walk and bike along the waterway, taking in the view and lush landscaping and during the holidays can even stop by the park for a visit with Mr. Clause!
The Isle dates back to 1898 when C. Perry Snell was visiting St Pete on his honeymoon then returned a year later to purchase the land we now know as North Shore Park. He later went on to purchase Crescent Lake, Mirror Lake and 600 acres of land along the northern edge of the city, which we now call Coffee Pot Bayou.
In 1911, Snell bought and began to develop a small island and in 1925 was ready to begin selling the lots in his new self titled neighborhood, the first area being called Brightwater Bayou. A few years later, Snell donated a piece of land to the Women’s Club whom began the process of building a bridge sturdy enough to bring traffic on and off the island.
Over the years, Snell Isle has continued to develop and improve through efforts led by the not for profit Snell Isle Property Owners Association. They have received several Neighborhood Partnership grants which have allowed them to build and restore several of the islands prominent parks.
